New: Birthday Parties!

As I continue my Wilton cake decorating classes at the North Aurora Micheal’s with an awesome instructor, Julie, I am gaining confidence in my abilities. I now feel confident I can throw a wonderful Birthday Party. I was on my church’s planning team until it was disbanded a few years ago, so I have planning experience beyond my own children’s parties. I will make a fabulous cake for the birthday boy or girl or twins! I love to make over the top, one year old cakes for smashing photos! Here’s one of V (love that sweetie!).

If you are looking for a great photographer for such a venture, check out my friend Katie. She is very gifted (she did the picture above).

She also took this picture during V’s sixth month shoot.

Here is one of V’s three month pictures Katie took.

And this one is of V at less than a week old. I can hardly believe it’s been over a year! It was also taken by Katie.

Katie loves doing newborn shoots and is very good at them. All the proceeds from her photos go toward her adoption fund! She and her husband, Josh, were just matched with a birth mom! Want to support them? Host any kind of Usborne Party and I will donate 1/2 my commission to their adoption fund! You can also buy a box of Cards for a Cause! Just use the “Contact” link on the upper right and let me know which box you want! Be sure to tell your friends and pass this along on Facebook! Can you tell I’m super excited for them to adopt?!?!?

Back to the One-Year-Old parties, the cost includes several baby/toddler books. If kids are invited, they will each go home with a book, if not, more books for the birthday boy/girl! If there is an older sibling he/she will get several gift wrapped books.

I can do a tiered cake like I did for V’s one year:

I have this gazebo, although I haven’t had the fondant course yet, so I can’t do the cake pictured with the gazebo. I have not been able to use it yet and I’m excited to!

My First Cake after my second lesson in course 1. I thought it was okay then, but now….. I can do much better!

Don’t forget my cake from Elise’s party!

That’s Not My Monster!

Themed party idea with kids: “That’s Not My Monster…” Party! Themed parties for children include a story, book, craft, and snack (optional, most of the time I can work around food allergies). The price varies based on the book and which snack, or meal in this case. This party works best in the summer.

CRAFT: Blow-painted monsters (pages 42-43 in 365 Things to Make and Do, it was a customer special June 2012) are made with washable paint, straws, pens, craft eyes (optional), anything else you are inspired to use, and colored/construction paper. The hostess (YOU!) and/or her kids make a monster a day or two before the party. At the party each of the kids will make their own monster and we will encourage them to show us how their monster is different than the example.

B (age 3) had a hard time blowing out the paint, so hers was more of a drop monster. Later she came back, dumped a lot of the purple paint, and hand painted the page entirely purple.

Did I mention she then helped V (almost 1) paint her foot? You really want to use WASHABLE paint. I’m very glad I did!

One SNACK idea is ants on a log (or car if the kids are old enough to put the tooth pick in without getting hurt!), again encourage them to make their ants better than the example. And to show you how a good of a monster they can be when they eat the ants!

Cupcakes would also work well, frost them for younger kids and have them put on decorations to make Monster cupcakes.

Monster Sandwiches would also be awesome! Use round sandwich rolls (or buns), assorted cold cuts and slices cheeses, firm tomatoes sliced thin, cucumber also sliced thin, assorted lettuce leaves (not sliced!), bell peepers sliced to look like horns or fangs and any other things you think would be good! The picture I have of the sandwich has olive eyes, but I don’t like those, so I’ll use something else.

Here is my 7 yr old with his Monster.

Here’s my 5 yr old with his three horned monster.

Here is our friend’s sandwich. He came over for the day to play along with his younger sister. Her sandwich is next:

Yum! I’m getting hungry for some monsters!

Here is my three yr old’s sandwich.

I’m sorry to say my kids wouldn’t eat the radishes without lots of ranch. B (age 3) picked hers all apart, just like every other sandwich.

Well it looks like I gave enough snack ideas for a meal! I can help you make all the craft and food prep ahead of time.

The STORY could be “That’s Not My Monster …“, “This is My Monster“, “Monsters Aren’t Real“, or the awesome new title, “The Whatif Monster“, Some additional books to choose for the kids could take home (hostess choice) are “Monster Things to Make and Do“, “Noisy Monsters“, “Monsters Sticker Book“, “Monsters Coloring Book“, “1001 Monster things to spot“, or the activity card set “Monster Doodles“.

Elise’s Ballerina Party

We had a great party yesterday! We had a craft, story time, and I used some of my new skills to make a Ballerina Cake. I used the instructions for the Ballerina from I Can Draw People. I forgot to take pictures of the party, but I did remember to take a picture of the cake. Each of the girls also went home with Sticker Dolly Dressing Ballerinas. Elise earned $105 in free books, Congratulations! I earned the 5% bonus in July, so thank you everyone who ordered at this party and the others in July!

Andrea’s Party!

I had Andrea’s party last night. It was so much fun! Thank you to all who came. We had wonderful conversations. I made a new friend who has adopted an older child (which is Jason’s and my hope). I believe all of us made new friends! We also eat some yummy food! Andrea and I have a close mutual friend, Katie. Andrea asked if I would be interested in donating some of my commission to the adoption fund as I did for Elisabeth’s party. I’m happy to say some more is being added to their fund! I’m so excited to see their new little one (s)!

Elisabeth’s Party Tonight!

I’m so excited for Elisabeth’s party tonight! She has three boys 5 and under. You can check out her blog about her sweet middle son, Wesley here. What’s better than helping Elisabeth get free books for her boys? Helping Katie bring home her next child(ren)! I’m giving my commission from tonight’s sales to their adoption fund!!!!

Katie is a close friend. She’s a wonderful mom to two girls and a son and hopefully soon another one or two! I was going to say her two most recent posts made me cry! They were so touching. But there’s a new post! So I’m going to read it after I finish this post, workout, shower, eat lunch, prepare for the show tonight….hmm, hopefully I’ll get to read it today! I’m so excited for Josh and Katie to adopt! Josh is the lead pastor at our church. Our first Sunday was the Sunday he joined Tab on the pastoral team. Now Tab is in CA. We miss Tab and Sung, but are glad for their friendship and obedience to follow God’s call.

Yeah, I’m super excited for Josh and Katie to adopt! Come tonight and support them and Elisabeth! If you can’t make it, you can order online! The commission will still go to Josh and Katie!
